Mel Stoutsenberger Collection
Mel Stoutsenberger began taking pictures at the age of 12 with a Kodak 126 Instamatic. Growing up in the San Fernando Valley in southern California,
Mel had plenty of subjects to point his camera towards, but his favorite genre was action sports, especially motocross, surfing and skateboarding.
Bitten hard by the photography bug, the necessary upgrades ensued via a part time job at a bicycle shop and he began shooting and processing his own 35mm black and white film. Mel was there at the very beginning of Bicycle Motocross. He was a participant and observer, but more importantly,
in a historical, soulful sense, he was able to capture the magic of this new sport with his photography.
